Join the director team this spring and help us in welcoming the TWELFTH edition of Cal Hacks, the world’s largest collegiate hackathon! We’re a small, tight-knit team of undergrads across English, statistics, cognitive science, business, linguistics, economics, and other majors — of course, including computer science and data science — and we’d love to have you join us this semester!
There are no hard requirements to apply: you don’t need to come from a certain major or have attended lots of hackathons before. Creating a 2500+ person hackathon and planning events, in general, take all different kinds of work, and it can only be done with a diverse mix of team members who are driven with a common goal.

We’re dedicated to fostering a welcoming and inclusive club culture for our directors! This past semester, we’ve hosted potlucks, a pizza-making movie night, bouldering socials, picnics on the Glade, a snowy retreat in Tahoe, and so much more (& too many Moffitt study sessions to count). From visiting Japan to going to Six Flags Fright Fest, our members frequently spend time together outside of Berkeley and even after graduation!

Hackathons @ Berkeley is a community of people with a common goal—cultivating a platform where people can build, learn, and create without boundaries. During the fall semester, we host the world’s largest collegiate hackathon. During the spring semester, we encourage directors to brainstorm and implement their own initiatives with the support of other directors. That means YOU could spearhead the next Hackathons @ Berkeley initiative!
From hosting a yearly hackathon for 2500+ people to teaching the Cubstart Decal to hundreds of Berkeley students, we strive to leave a lasting, positive impact on the Berkeley community and beyond. Becoming a director means you get to become part of that legacy whether you’re contributing new ideas for the hackathon, fellowship, Cubstart, or starting your own initiative. Come help us continue making history at Cal Hacks 12.0!
